By the end of the 1960s, the relationship with Abercrombie and Fitch was already two decades old, and it was Jack Heuer’s close friendship with the president of Walter Haynes that led Heuer to become the partner and official timekeeper of the America’s Cup boat Intrepid: the 40-foot American boat that was to defend the New York Yacht Club trophy against Dame Pattie, the challenger of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
For the 1967 America’s Cup competition, Heuer provided the Intrepid with a set of portable yacht stopwatches and outfitted her crew with Aquastar wristwatches that featured an ingenious countdown timer consisting of a red and white disk that rotated behind the a series of five perforations.
Intrepid won the event by four decisive races to nil. To celebrate, Heuer produced the Skipper chronograph with a 30-minute sub-dial that was adapted for the 15-minute countdown of the regatta pre-start in three of five-minute segments.
Each of these segments was a different colour, and a conspicuous orange was used to alert the crew to the fact that there were only five minutes left; green to represent the ship’s rig color and light teal to replicate the deck color of the Intrepid.”day, this year

A new watch that bases its design on the one born from Jack Heuer’s participation in the most important regatta in the world, the America’s Cup. Although this new watch is based on the design of the Classic Skipper, it has been modernized to the aesthetic base of the Race and the improvements of the current materials and mechanics.
The dial is blue in color with a circular brushed finish. On the outside it has a blue highlight with a scale of 60 seconds/minutes. The case is made of steel with a size of 39 mm in diameter with a thickness of 13.9 mm. It has a brushed and polished finish. The glass is glassbox-type domed sapphire with double anti-reflective treatment.
