Zodiac Sea-Chron: return of the 1960s diving chronograph

After the Super Sea Wolf Skeleton 6-15 that we talked about in our selection of rainbow watches, today we are interested in the return of a chronograph appeared in the 1960s. Zoom on the Sea-Chronrecently unveiled by Zodiac.

Diver lovers are not unaware of the legitimate place occupied by Zodiac in watchmaking history. There sea wolf was unveiled the same year as the famous Submariner and Fifty-Fathoms, ensuring the Swiss brand a great reputation. The latter gave rise to many variations, including the Sea-Chrona logical evolution embellishing this icon with a precious chronograph function.

We therefore find here the case of the Super Sea Wolf, already present in the collection and widely declined, whose proportions are seen slightly inflated. It has a diameter of 42mm associated with a thickness of 16.5mm. Attention, the horns of this box are relatively long, result: a 50.5mm lug-to-lug distance.

Zodiac has here kept the 20 bar of resistance that characterize the current collection, and this is one of the strengths of this novelty. And although the flange displays a tachymeter scaleallowing you to measure your speed, the ceramic bezel topped with a sapphire insert is graduated with a timer. A judicious choice that does not deviate this chronograph from its primary vocation: diving instrumentation.

In truth, it is not one, but two models that Zodiac offers us. A classic reverse panda supplemented by a blue background and black counters version. A pair of sandwich dials whose indexes and sub-counters appear hollowed out, providing volume and depth. We particularly appreciate the original but effective choice of a round index at 12 o’clock. Both sport a black bezel and a jubilee bracelet with optimal comfort. On the mechanical side, the references ZO3604 and ZO3605 are powered by a Swiss automatic chronograph movement: the caliber Sellita SW510b. The latter oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour while offering a comfortable 72-hour power reserve.
