Italy… A country that is often associated with elegance and craftsmanship. The watchmaking sector is no exception to this image, and our brand of the day even less so. The Allemano watch is a clever blend of the brand’s long industrial history and its unique know-how.
Let’s explore Allemano’s fascinating journey together, from pressure gauges to timepieces, and see what makes his pieces so special.
From heavy carpentry machining to watchmaking: Allemano’s atypical career
It all starts in 1856when Giuseppe Allemano opens the doors of its factory specializing in heavy carpentry and the manufacture of steam rollers used for road works. We are still a long way from watchmaking.
In 1919, production slowly changed to focus on manometers, measuring instruments for controlling pressure and temperature. These were installed on military vehicles as well as on Italian cars, including the Fiat 501 Torpedo.
In 1929, Allemano’s son transformed the factory into a company; it became Allemano F. & Figli. He took the opportunity to create the logo, which is still the same today. In the 1950s, the company designed and produced a wide range of measuring instruments for aviation, trains and boats. Then, in 1980, it specialized in the manufacture of diving instruments such as depth gauges and tools used for decompression.
2019 marks an important turning point because Allemano decides to transpose its mechanical expertise into everyday objects. The brand’s first watches are born. These are the Time Measurerscreations whose design oscillates between past and present, directly inspired by the pressure gauge fitted 100 years earlier on the Fiat 501 Torpedo.
In terms of watchmaking, Allemano can therefore be considered a relatively young brand. However, it brings with it a baggage of more than 100 years of expertise and tradition in terms of precision and durability.
Italian manufacturing and Swiss mechanics: the winning combination
Allemano is positioning itself on the market of high end watcheswith a particular emphasis on precision and robustness. Its pieces are aimed at discerning enthusiasts who appreciate fine engineering and elegant designs.
Each model of the brand is designed in Italy in order to guarantee its origin to customers, but also to give them this spirit of tradition, of heritage transmitted since the beginnings of Allemano. A brand born in Italy, which grew up in Italy, and whose roots remain firmly anchored there.
At this Italian made is added theSwiss expertise for the mechanism. A guarantee of accuracy and reliability. The majority of watches are equipped with a mechanical movement with manual winding, except for certain models with automatic winding.
Each Misuratori del Tempo is accompanied by a certificate which, in addition to attesting to ownership and origin with a serial number, guarantees its quality and the manufacturing excellence from which it comes.
Watches with an instantly recognizable face
A quick glance is enough to recognize the Allemano models. It must be said that some details are unmistakable, they even give the game away! First of all, the name of the brand, placed on the dial as well as the words “Made in Italy”. We immediately know where we are going. Then the shape of the hands, one of which always has the end in the shape of a crescent moon or an adjustable wrench (it all depends on your interpretation).
Overall, every piece, without exception, is reminiscent of a manometer in one way or another. The dial, but also the rather thick case whose shape also evokes that of pressure gauges. It is this intrinsic link with the industrial history of the brand that makes these watches special and allows them to stand out. They indicate the time, sometimes other time measurements, while telling something unique.
There is detail, therefore, personality without a doubt. In addition, Allemano watches, whether classic or sporty, remain quite sober and offer impeccable reading. Most are rather urban, with for the moment two divers waterproof up to 300 meters.
Finally, in terms of materials, the brand is sticking with something that works very well in watchmaking: a case made of 316L stainless steel and one leather bracelet (attention full grain leather here), in rubber or steel.
Allemano’s flagship models
Allemano presents several collections among which one stands out in particular, namely the one called 1919. It includes three models:
- The watch Man which, with its single hand and its retrograde minute hand, perfectly reproduces the appearance of the famous pressure gauge.
- The watch GMT which is aimed at travelers and displays a red hand dedicated to the second time zone.
- The watch Day simple, designed for everyday use, which can be recognized by its red second hand and its date window at 3 p.m. This one is also available in a more original and contemporary version (Day SVA10).
Finally, a special mention for the Allemano Grande Torino watch from the Archive collection, a special edition of the Day model paying homage to the Turin football team of the same name.
Allemano creations represent a perfect fusion between tradition and innovation. With its unique heritage rich in mechanical precision, its easily identifiable models combining Italian and Swiss expertise, the brand offers us a very beautiful watchmaking proposition. Reliable, neat models, with a very good quality-price ratio, intended for watch lovers looking for something special, also wanting a story behind the reading of time.
