For this 2023 edition of Watches & Wonders in Geneva, cartier showcases its two most iconic models: the Tank and the Santos. New colours, new variations, new skeletonized dials, new movements… there will be something for everyone! The House has not forgotten its female clientele either, with in particular the Tub and the Panthère, but we will voluntarily focus on the Tank and the Santos.
The collection " Cartier Private represents the pinnacle of Cartier's catalogue. An exclusive selection of watches in limited editions, drawn from among the brand's most iconic models. And this year, collectors around the world will not be disappointed! Cartier has delved into its precious archives to extract a real nugget: the Normal Tank. The one who started it all. A return to basics and original model from 1917. The dimensions are slightly larger but the proportions are maintained, as are the beveled glass, the twelve Roman numerals and the minute track. With a little extra detail: the date "1917", hidden in the Roman numeral VII, instead of the usual "Cartier" signature. Only the Breguet hands of the original model have given way to sword hands, too bad. The cases are in yellow gold or platinum, and can be associated with traditional leather straps, or with new 7 link bracelets fashioned from the same metals. But Cartier did not stop at these classic versions, and also unveils two skeleton versions, in rose gold and platinum, spectacular to say the least. The skeleton work is simply incredible, alternating solids and voids with a skill rarely equaled. The movement of these two models is not to be outdone, and offers an unusual kinematics: the hour hand turns in 24 hours. A original complicationwhich makes these pieces even more unique.
There Santos Dumont is the chic version of the Santos, with its thinner profileand his leather bracelet. Cartier has decided to push the refinementt even further by offering the Santos-Dumont XL in three precious metals : yellow gold, pink gold and platinum. The traditional Roman numerals are carved directly into precious stones : red jasper, green jade or blue dumortierite, while the crown cabochon also matches. Last detail: these models accommodate the famous Breguet handsas a tribute to the original Tanks of the 1920s. Three limited-edition models (200 each), supplemented by two other models (pink gold blue dial and gold-steel gray dial) which are now part of the permanent collection.
Cartier is a past master in the delicate art of openwork, and proves it once again with the Santos Dumont Skeleton. A mesmerizing piece, brought to life by the brand new caliber 9629MCof which the micro rotor is sculpted in the shape of a lady“, a series of planes designed by aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont himself. A show all by itself. This skeletonized Santos-Dumont is available in yellow gold (limited edition of 150), pink gold and steel.
Cartier has also refreshed the line of the American tank. Thinner, rounder and more refined, the new Tank Américaine is modernized slightly while keeping its elongated silhouette so special and so endearing. A model a little apart, but which retains its place within the Tank collection. Eleven new versionsdivided into three sizes, in steel or pink gold.
There Tank Louis Cartier and his minimalist design welcome 4 new variants. Two solid colors – dark green and burgundy red – as well as two original patterns. Baptized three-gold and tri-gold, these alternate yellow, pink and white gold in the form of small squares or rectangles, for a mosaic beautiful.
Green is currently the trendiest color and Cartier knows it well. There Santos Wide and the Santos Medium are now available with a magnificent forest-green dialin sunburst finish which gives it breathtaking plays of light. For the rest, we find everything that makes the charm of the Santos, with this perfect balance between its industrial lines and its refined dial.
