Little by little, the Pelagos FXD models are gaining importance within the Tudor catalog. They embody the brand's more contemporary and technical approach compared to the various Black Bays which play the neo-retro card. The latest version of the Pelagos FXD offers a matte black dial and this is obviously what is noticeable at first glance. However, the main modification compared to the two other 3-hand Pelagos FXD models is at the bezel level. The latter becomes unidirectional and takes the logical direction of the graduation of diving watches. The bidirectional and backward graduated bezel of the Marine Nationale and Alinghi Red Bull Racing models is therefore abandoned for a simple reason: the Pelagos FXD draws its inspiration from the watches that equipped US Navy divers and it no longer needs ( nor the right for reasons of consistency) to refer to navigation by successive headings.
For the rest, this new version is identical to the previous ones apart from the chromatic palette. I thus find the very beautiful titanium case with integrated lugs with a diameter of 42mm. I am a big fan of this case which I find slender and very contemporary in its execution. The dial goes to the essentials and the absence of a date window pleases me. The Pelagos inscription is in red to provide a very discreet touch of color because for the rest, the atmosphere is a strong contrast between black and white.
The movement that equips the piece remains the caliber MT5602, certified chronometer, and which has a power reserve of 70 hours. Finally, two bracelets are available and they have been intelligently chosen. The single-strand black rubber strap is surprisingly thin and very pleasant to wear. I was surprised by this bracelet because its flexibility allows it to adjust to the case with integrated lugs without looking too bulky. It reinforces the sobriety of the watch. The green fabric strap, on the other hand, is more colorful and gives the Pelagos FXD dynamism.
The thinness of the rubber strap can be seen in this photo:
Of course, this new version of the Pelagos FXD is not revolutionary compared to previous models. It offers the same quality standards and the same seriousness in execution. Beyond the change in the dominant color, the fact that it incorporates a bezel consistent with that of diving watches will allow it to appeal to customers who regretted the backwards graduation. So itβs once again very well done on the part of Tudor. The brand completes its collection by bringing a little extra that goes beyond the pure aesthetic change. Personally, my favorite remains the first version, the Marine Nationale, because I find its blue particularly successful. Its rendering is sober but does not fall into the more austere style (in my opinion) of this latest version.
The green fabric bracelet brings dynamism:
