A set watch is successful when it tells a story, that is to say when it plays with the stones to create a staging. The only display of diamonds has little interest except in some cases to demonstrate a mastery in the crimping. But let's be clear: crimping really makes sense when the stones bring something in addition to their pure shine.

When I discovered the Piaget Altiplano Flying Tourbillon Arty Pop, I immediately felt that I was facing a masterpiece. It is obviously not a watch that I would wear on a daily basis. But how can we remain insensitive to this remarkable achievement? In fact, this watch is successful because it combines 3 factors which constitute the forces of Piaget: watchmaking content, precision in the execution of crafts and artistic expression.

The base of the room is the Altiplano Flying Tourbillon which is already a very good starting point. I like this fine, elegant watch that is distinguished by the original position of the whirlwind at 2 o'clock and the sector dedicated to the time display at 8 o'clock. This creates a kind of unexpected diagonal which gives a lot of energy and singularity. As it should be with Piaget, the whirlwind is flying which allows you to observe the very beautiful cage in a clear way. The 670P movement that drives this altiplano is manual reassembly and has a 48 -hour power reserve for a frequency of 3Hz. The starting diameter is 41mm (for a thickness of 7.4mm) ... but it is better to forget these dimensions since the arty pop is intended to get out of the limits of the case!

The accuracy in the execution of the crafts is found in the Malachite marquetry and in the crimping. I do not know if the setting term is appropriate here. I have the feeling of being faced with a three-dimensional achievement. The notion of lapidary sculpture seems to correspond much better and that is the reason why I think that Hervé obliged worked on this piece (even if I do not have confirmation). In any case, the result is perfect, perfectly arranged. Emeralds and diamonds interact and mix with harmony.

Finally, artistic expression is what makes this arty pop change. The pattern created by the stones is a wonder. I had the sensation by discovering it that the area around the whirlwind exploded in a fireworks of white and green colors from which certain shards escaped from the watch. I mentioned above the diagonal defined by the time sector and the whirlwind. Piaget took advantage of this artistic work to prolong the diagonal, amplify it and give a feeling of energy as if the whole dial was in motion. In this context, the presence of a flying whirlwind is ideal. It amplifies this dynamic and almost seems to be the centrifuge which propels diamonds and emeralds.

I am totally under the spell of this amazing and spectacular watch. This is exactly what I'm looking for in a set watch: show. And this is the case here. Of course, given the requirement that is required to shape it, it is only available in 8 copies. This is the reason why I warmly thank the Piaget teams in Paris for giving me the opportunity to see it. It is in any case a great expression of know-how of the house because no dimension is set aside. Despite its deliberately excessive side, the whole is coherent and harmonious. It even avoids being provocative or ostentatious. The Altiplano Flying Tourbillon Arty Pop undoubtedly bears the signature of Piaget.
