Today, head to the heart of the French capital to discover a promising young watch brand. With its unique perspective on time and its personal vision of the moment, Inercy combines quality design and traceable manufacturing, all in a beautiful proposition: “an affordable and French mechanical watch with complications”.
Let’s take a look at the Inercy watch together!
The beginnings of Inercy
It all begins with a search, a quest even; that of Thibault and D’Alexistwo childhood friends who were great watchmaking enthusiasts. Unable to find a complicated mechanical watch that was both affordable and French, they decided to make the precious object themselves. A major challenge that they successfully took up, as Inercy was born in Parisin 2020.
For its name, this independent brand is inspired by the inertia of the balance wheel, a crucial principle for regulating the watch mechanism.
Three years after its creation, in 2023, the ONE collection is born. It took time, many tests, prototypes and reflections to unveil this bold piece.
Priority to French know-how
All Inercy watches are designed and assembled by a team of watchmakers in the brand’s workshop in Paris. Thus, each component and each manufacturing step is mastered. A very good point for quality, but also for trust, it must be admitted.
All the elements of the casing (hand, dial, bracelet and case) are designed between France and Switzerland. As for the mechanism of the Inercy timepieces, it is a PTS movement of Asian origin, too assembled and adjusted in France.
ONE Collection: a modern watch to experience time differently
As you will have understood, the founders of Inercy like mechanical watches. And for this very special collection, it was necessary to equip the model with an admirable complication. What could be better than a whirlwind movement ? As a reminder, the tourbillon is a mechanism that compensates for the effects of gravity by rotating the entire escapement and balance wheel in a rotating frame, thus improving the precision of the watch.
For the pleasure of the eyes and because this kind of complication is much more exposed than hidden, we can see the famous tourbillon in a large cylindrical opening at 6 o’clock. Semi-open heart and almost hypnotic rotation…
To complete this major element and give it the spotlight, the brand has chosen a “ sector dial » inspired by compasses. In fact, each quarter hour has a letter rather than a number: “N” for “North” at 12 o’clock, “E” for “East” at 3 o’clock and “O” for “West” at 9 o’clock. The South is therefore replaced by the tourbillon. Interestingly, these three letters form the word “ONE”.
So there are several important notions in this watch, namely that of space and time, but also that of choice. Which direction to take? What to do with the time that is given to us? Big questions of life and a symbolism that goes further than simply reading the time.
For the rest of the design, we are in the contemporary with, still on the dial, a textured double circle in the middle then smooth on the edge. The whole is housed in a case in stainless steel of 42 mmaccompanied by a Cordura strap with leather lining.
The overall look is sober, elegant, with a slight sporty touch brought by the material of the strap and the red end of the minute hand.
FYI, the ONE watch currently comes in two different versions: one in dark gray (“Dark Grey”) and the other in light gray (“Light Grey”), each imitated in 100 copies.
Mechanical flying tourbillon movement
We come back to the movement of this Inercy ONE watch. It is therefore a question here of a mechanism with manual windingmore precisely the CAL345 with flying tourbillon. This one offers a beat of 28,800 vibrations per houra precision of +/- 10 seconds per dayas well as a 42-hour power reserve. Fans of transparent cases will be delighted since the workings of the ONE are fully visible on the back.
Conclusion? Inercy stands out for its approach focused on quality, craftsmanship, and its introspective philosophy of time. In addition to its rather versatile urban look, we like the idea of wearing a well-made watch of French origin on the wrist, and above all, one that remains very accessible while being equipped with a prestigious complication.
