To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Oyster, Rolex could have played the expected part: a little nostalgia, a hint of fake vintage, two or three strong nods to 1926, and that was it. Instead, the brand chose a more subtle, and ultimately more Rolexian, path: makingOyster Perpetual 41 the central piece of this anniversary, without disguising it as a relic, without fixing it in a school homage, and without denying what it has always been supposed to be, a simple, robust, precise watch, wearable every day.
And this is precisely why this new 2026 model presented at the Watches and Wonders show deserves serious attention.
The great merit of this new Oyster Perpetual 41 is that it does not resemble a commemorative watch in the bad sense of the term. Rolex is not inflicting on us a lazy historical reconstruction, nor a piece saturated with symbols, nor an exercise in nostalgia wrapped in cellophane. The brand prefers to inject well-chosen signs into a perfectly contemporary watch.
The result is much smarter than a simple retro homage.
This Oyster Perpetual 41 introduced the Yellow Rolesor in the current Oyster Perpetual range. This alone is enough to give it particular weight. The mixture ofOystersteel and18k yellow gold is nothing anecdotal at Rolex: it is a house language, a historical code, a perfectly identified visual DNA. But here, the brand uses it with restraint. The domed bezel and crown are in yellow gold, while the Oyster bracelet remains entirely in steel. And this detail changes a lot of things.
Because Rolex could very easily have fallen into a two-tone Oyster Perpetual that was a little too talkative, a little too bright, a little too demonstrative. But this is not the case. By retaining an all-steel bracelet, the brand keeps this 41 with real visual tension. Gold brings warmth, depth, relief. Steel retains the tool spirit, rigor, and sharpness. The whole remains chic, but without heaviness.
The strong point of this Oyster Perpetual 41 is not only its Rolesor. It is above all the way in which Rolex integrated the centenary into the dial without transforming it into an advertising billboard.
THE slate dialshiny, with a sunburst finish, is a success in itself. It has the right density, sobriety and presence. On this basis, Rolex adds several specific elements: the name Rolex in green, green marks on the timer at each five-minute interval, and above all the mention “100 years” at 6 a.m., where we usually find the inscription “Swiss Made”.
On paper, it could be terribly kitsch. In fact, this seems sufficiently controlled not to tip the clock into anecdote. This is undoubtedly where we recognize Rolex: the brand knows how far to go, then stop just before the point where the symbol becomes heavy.
Another detail, more discreet but anything but innocent: the winding crown wears a “100” embossed. Here again, Rolex does not highlight its point with a marker. She distills. And this dosage gives the watch more staying power than an overly talkative homage.
There is something quite fitting about Rolex choosing the Oyster Perpetual to carry such a symbolic moment. Because this collection is perhaps, more than any other, the concentrate of the Rolex idea.
A three-hand watch. No date. No demonstrative complications. Just the essentials: hours, minutes, seconds, water resistance, automatic winding, precision, readability, solidity. In summary, everything that Rolex has been able to industrialize at a level rarely equaled.
Celebrating the centenary of the Oyster with an Oyster Perpetual is therefore much more coherent than releasing a spectacular piece unrelated to the history of the concept. This 41 reminds us that before being a social symbol, Rolex was first and foremost an extremely strong watchmaking idea: that of the modern, reliable, protected wrist watch, designed to be worn and not looked at like fragile porcelain.
This is the paradox of the best Oyster Perpetuals. On the surface, they don't offer much to tell. And yet, they say a lot to those who know how to look.
This new 41 does not seek to impress with complication. It focuses on the right proportions, the right materials, the right dial, the right details, the right level of finish. A very Rolex, in short. But a Rolex which, this time, has something more to tell without losing its natural discipline.
THE 41mm Oyster casewaterproof 100 metersdisplays a thickness of 11.60 mm. In other words, the watch remains perfectly wearable on a daily basis. We are not in the sleeve effect, nor in the brick on the wrist supposed to compensate for a lack of ideas. This Oyster Perpetual 41 has presence, but it retains what a Rolex must maintain: poise.
The Oystersteel case, satin-brushed with polished sides, works very well with the domed polished yellow gold bezel. It's a simple, readable, almost obvious combination. You still have to know how to do it without falling into déjà vu. Rolex achieves this here with a certain insolent ease.
Inside, we find the caliber 3230an automatic manufacture movement that we already know well, and this is excellent news. There was absolutely no need to reinvent the wheel for this watch. What was needed was a reliable, modern, robust movement, consistent with the Oyster spirit. The 3230 ticks all the boxes.

We can always be ironic about the fact that Rolex does not sell mechanical dreams like some more demonstrative houses. But we must also recognize one thing: in this category of watch, few brands achieve such a level of industrial consistency. The 3230 caliber is not there to amuse the gallery. He's there to tour, for a long time, well, and without fuss.
Rolex is also taking advantage of 2026 to strengthen its certification Superlative Chronometerwith new criteria linked to the resistance to magnetismto the reliability and to the sustainability. This is not the sexiest part of the press release. This is probably one of the most important.
Because Rolex does not dominate only thanks to its image. The brand also dominates because it has been able to impose, year after year, an extraordinarily high standard of daily performance. The announced precision remains –2/+2 seconds per day on finished watchwhich remains a very serious requirement.
In other words, the crown does not just celebrate a century of design or prestige. She reminds us that she continues to work on her favorite terrain: the watch that endures, that lasts, that works, and that ends up making the competition exasperated by dint of consistency.
There are components which never make the headlines in press releases, but which contribute enormously to the success of a watch. THE Oyster bracelet is one of them.
With its three links, its proven robustness, its clasp Oyster clasp and its comfort extension Easylink of 5 mm, it remains one of the best bracelets on the market in this category. And on this Oyster Perpetual 41, the choice to keep it in steel, without central links in yellow gold, is in my opinion one of the best choices of the launch.
For what ? Because it preserves the general balance. It prevents the watch from sliding towards an overly dressy or too flashy aesthetic. It maintains what an Oyster Perpetual should remain, even when it celebrates its centenary: a true everyday Rolex.
Basically, the success of this Oyster Perpetual 41 lies in a quality that few brands still know how to master: restraint. Everything is designed to remind you of the importance of the moment, but nothing is forced. The watch commemorates without disguising itself. She celebrates without overplaying. She says a lot, but without raising her voice.
And in today's landscape, it's almost a form of elegance.
We can always criticize Rolex for its conservatism, its prudence, its taste for developments more than for ruptures. But when it comes to dealing with such an important anniversary, that caution becomes a strength. Where others would have delivered a souvenir watch, Rolex delivers an Oyster Perpetual which will probably remain desirable even when the noise of the centenary has died down.
The other new features exist, of course, but they clearly revolve around this 41st anniversary.
L'Oyster Perpetual 36 Oystersteel steel adopts a multicolored dial with Jubilee decoration which will divide. Some will love this pop, graphic, almost insolent side for a Rolex. Others will find that the brand is having a little too much fun. In any case, it is the most divisive proposal of the lot, and probably the one that will get people talking the most.
THE Oyster Perpetual 28 in 18k yellow gold And 34 in 18 ct Everose gold play a more valuable card, with dials green stone And blue stoneas well as natural stone indexes at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. The whole thing is more subdued than it seems, notably thanks to the satin surfaces, but here we are dealing with variations that are more specific, more targeted, less central than the Oyster Perpetual 41 in the story of this centenary.
If we had to choose only one Rolex Oyster Perpetual from Watches & Wonders 2026, it would without hesitation be this Oyster Perpetual 41 in Yellow Rolesor.
Because it concentrates the idea of the centenary without falling into the gadget watch. Because it recalls the history of the Oyster without aping 1926. Because it enriches the collection without betraying it. And because deep down, it does exactly what a good Rolex should do: give the impression that nothing is spectacular, while everything is extremely calculated.
Rolex did not reinvent the Oyster. She did better: she recalled why, a hundred years later, the Oyster remains one of the strongest ideas in all of watchmaking.
