Adjusting a watch to fit your wrist may seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and a precise method, it's a job you can do at home. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you remove watch links safely and accurately.
To carry out this operation, you need some specific tools :
Make sure your workspace is clear and well lit so you can work on your project better and not lose pieces along the way.
Unfasten your watch while keeping it around your wrist and turn your wrist so that the clasp is facing you. Then, hold the links together to assess which ones you will need to remove. The loose part of the bracelet therefore corresponds to the number of links you need to remove.
Look at the direction of the arrows inside the links of the bracelet because they are what indicate the direction to bring out the pins.
Place the strap at the edge, on the watch support. The pin to be removed must come out from the top to the bottom.
Place the tip of the pin punch into the axle and then give it a few small hammer blows. The pin will come out from underneath and you will just have to remove it completely using the flat pliers if necessary.
Repeat this operation according to the number of links you wish to remove so that the bracelet is your size.
To reassemble the bracelet links, the process is pretty much the same. Put the links back together, take the pin and replace it on its axis (opposite direction of the arrows) then press with your finger.
Some watch straps are different and instead have flat pins that clip onto the links.. If this is the case with your bracelet, the technique will be slightly different.
Your bracelet is finally adjusted to your wrist! With a little patience and the right tools, you can adjust your watch to the perfect size without having to call a jeweler or watchmaker. It's a useful skill that will allow you to personalize your watches and wear them with comfort and style.
