Panerai Brabus, the Recycled Beast

Panerai has once again shown its wildest side. The Italian firm started two years ago a collaboration with the German manufacturer Brabus. An alliance that is less strange, but from which Panerai has obtained an outstanding performance. And we say strange because, in principle, both brands have little to do with each other. Or so we thought at first, though Jean-Marc PontrouΓ© He has already taken care of getting us out of the mistake since the beginning of the collaboration.

To begin with, the collaboration is limited to the Brabus boat area, a world that Panerai knows very well. Second, the agreement with Brabus focuses state-of-the-art boats and yachts, all of them characterized by their high performance and generous use of technologies. Third point, and no less important, the desire of Brabus customers for the exclusive products are a potential audience for Panerai.

Having established common ties, Panerai has found in the collaboration with Brabus a way of technological experimentation that is much more open (conceptually and technologically) than what we find in its catalog references. All Panerai Brabus creations are "beasts" that the client must tame, just like the German manufacturer's boats.

A stable program

Brabus and Panerai launched their first watch in the fall of 2021. Since then, there have been several versions that have been incorporated into the catalog. It is a very exclusive product, always launched in a limited edition. All the references share the same technical base and are only differentiated by the materials used and finishing colors. Fans just have to wait for the latest reference released on the market and see if they like the combination. And there are many who have already fallen prey to this product: they see a different Panerai in the Brabus than what they can find in the rest of the collection.

Light and Recycled

The novelty that the latest installment of the Panerai Submersible S Brabus brings us lies in the material of its case. It is made with eTitanio, a 100% recycled titanium powder obtained from scrap Ti64 alloy. The firm provides as documentation the recycling certificate, made by an American company. He use of recycled materials and open information from suppliers These are two elements that are increasingly present in Panerai's product policy, in keeping with the new trends in luxury consumption.

Apart from the use of eTitanium, the Panerai Submersible S Brabus has the peculiarity of being made of DMLS technology. Panerai is the first watchmaking company that has used this manufacturing system, already experienced in previous models. It is similar to a three-dimensional printing process. A high-powered laser "draws" the case by converting titanium powder into solid matter. The great advantage of using DMLS is its ability to manufacture a box with a hollow structure and, at the same time, a very solid one. To give us an idea, the titanium case of the Panerai Submersible S Brabus weighs 30% less than if it were made of standard titanium, an already very light metal. The box hardly contributes 23.6 grams of the 115 grams that the watch weighs as a whole.
