The International Fine Watchmaking Exhibition Mexico (SIAR) closes its 17th edition with successful attendance and launches of watch innovations. A cordial atmosphere that brings together the leaders of the watch industry who, year after year, have witnessed the consolidation of the watch market in Mexico. Three dizzying days in which prestigious collectors, jewelers and watch brands celebrated their shared passion for special pieces that can only be seen and touched at SIAR. In short, global launches, Mexican editions and special events filled three days with dynamism that brought together 49 luxury brands. One more edition that confirms a greater influx of young people fond of timepieces. Three days of pure fine watchmaking that demonstrates that the watch sector is in very good health despite global uncertainty.
“In an environment with some economic uncertainty in important markets for watchmaking, the stability that Mexico demonstrates is undoubtedly good news. The response of the public and well-positioned brands has been seen again in this edition of SIAR with the same influx of end customers, jewelers, media and influencers with good results,” says Carlos Alonso, general director of SIAR.
With 3,964 participants and more than 230 accredited journalists this year, the SIAR offers a comprehensive solution for the presentation of iconic models of the brands. Among these luxury houses, IWC stands out, which released two iconic models: Pilot's Watch Timezoner Top Gun Woodland and Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Mojave Desert. Other watches that have seen the light for the first time at SIAR are Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono Maritime Blue, Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Alain Silberstein Tourbillon (the firm's first tourbillon), Cvstos Chrono Sprint Steel / Sky Blue, Gerarld Charles Maestro 3.0 Chronograph y Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin y Leica ZM11.
Some models made their first stop at a watch salon in this setting in Mexico City. We mention the Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Manual, Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph Calendar, Speake-Marin Academic Rouge, Backes & Strauss The Berkeley Helios and Perrelet Turbine Titanium models.
There is no doubt that collectors who come to SIAR love special editions with national motifs. In this sense, several firms created very exclusive pieces. De Bethune Cempasúchil II, Chopard LUC Skull One Calavera Pop Art, Jacob & Co. Epic
Biver, the watchmaking house launched in March of this year by the genius Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre, chose the SIAR as the destination to show the public its first creation, a minute repeater with a chime. Salon attendees celebrated her unique piece, La Danse du Temps, inspired by Mexico's Day of the Dead.
The event, which has become a reference in the world of luxury in Mexico and Latin America, was attended by Tudor, which returned after eight years with a large space where it exhibited all its new products, such as the new Pelagos FXD Chrono.
SIAR welcomed brands that were making their debut, such as Longines, which showed its latest innovations and held an event with dancer Greta Elizondo, a friend of the brand. It was also the first time at the Seiko show, Gerald Charles, a brand founded by Gerald Genta, Leica watches and Golden Concept, a Swedish producer of custom cases inspired by haute horlogerie for Apple Watches. All of them join the veteran firms in the room.
This year, also, an alliance with W Radio México, turned the SIAR into a forum where relevant speakers from Mexico such as Gaby Warketin, Martha Debayle and Carlos Loret de Mola gave voice to the leaders and protagonists of the watch industry. A strategic partnership that made fine watchmaking news for three days. “Having W Radio has helped turn watches into a topic of interest for a broader audience,” acknowledged Carlos Alonso.
One of the attractions of SIAR is the variety of experiences that the companies organize to spread their watchmaking passion to visitors. In this sense, Hublot celebrated the launch of Big Bang Unico Titanium Green Ceramic Mexico, an edition with a cactus strap. David Tedeschi, general director for Latin America & Caribbean, Middle East and Africa, was the host along with Ana de la Reguera and Belinda at the party that followed the presentation of the limited edition. Another watch that caught everyone's attention was the Classic Fusion High Jewellery, a unique piece that was presented for the first time at SIAR.
Bulgari received its ambassador, actor Alejandro Speitzer, and actress Renata Notni in its private suite. Fabrizio Buonamassa, creative director of Bulgari, attended as a luxury host. Jaeger-LeCoultre took visitors to the Atelier d'Antoine with two masterclasses led by Stéphane Belmont, Heritage Director of the watch manufacture.
Cuervo y Sobrinos invited John Hemingway, grandson of Nobel Prize winner Ernest Hemingway, who spoke about the Iconic Hemingway Historian collection. They also presented the Latin Award, which celebrates Latinidad, for the first time at SIAR to actor Mauricio Ochmann.
Sponsors also filled the three days of the event with exclusive experiences. American Express invited its Platinum and Centurion customers to interesting conversations with industry leaders present at the show. Jean-Claude Biver, Fabrizio Buonamassa and David Tedeschi exchanged watchmaking passion and culture in a close environment. The Möet Hennessy group and Mercedes-Benz acted as luxury sponsors with experiences that made the event even more attractive.
