For less than €31, you have a recent watch with a large 2" screen, integrated GPS, Bluetooth calls and more than 140 sport modes. Many competitors ask you €50–70 for the same technical sheet, or even less well equipped. There, clearly, the functionality/price ratio is aggressive.
It's typically the ideal watch if you want to track your steps, your sleep, your cardio and a few sports sessions without worrying. You stay on Android (and even better if you're already in the Xiaomi ecosystem), you want clean notifications, calls on the wrist, a little serious sport, but you don't need a triathlete's Garmin. In short, real use, tight budget.
Let's be honest: if you're obsessed with the meter-level accuracy of GPS and the advanced stats of VO2max, this isn't the watch of your life. It remains an entry/mid-range watch. But for someone who runs, walks, does a little cycling, gym, and just wants to see their progress, it checks a lot of boxes for the price.
And the autonomy does the job: up to 18 days announced with standard use, which means that in reality you will be around 10–14 days if you activate notifications, a few sports sessions with GPS and 24-hour health monitoring. Two or three loads in the month, and you don't think about it anymore.
On the wrist, you have a square case with a large 2" LCD screen, thin borders and matte finish. It's clean, readable, punchy enough to read its stats in broad daylight. The watch remains light, but it felt a little more present than some ultra-thin bracelets: if you have a very thin wrist, you can feel it a little at night. Nothing dramatic, but we're not going to sell you “you'll totally forget about it” if that's not the case.
On the health side, you get the classic but solid combo: 24/7 heart rate, monitoring of blood oxygen level (SpO₂), sleep analysis, stress monitoring, and even cycle monitoring for those that concern. For someone who just wants to see if their nights are okay, if their heart isn't racing for nothing, and if the day was a little too busy, it's more than enough.
For sport, the Redmi Watch 5 Active has more than 140 training modes: running, walking, cycling, rowing, elliptical, skipping rope, strengthening, etc. You have a built-in GPS to track your journeys without depending on the phone, practical for running or fast walking. It's not the surgical precision of a €300 running watch, but to measure your outings, your distance, your approximate pace and see your progress week after week, it does the job.
In connected use, it is far from ridiculous: smartphone notifications (SMS, apps, social networks), Bluetooth calls directly on the wrist thanks to the microphone and speaker, music control, weather, alarm, timer, flashlight, “find my phone” function, and integration with the Mi Fitness app (Strava & co behind if you synchronize well). Frankly, for a watch around €30, you have plenty under your fingertips.
Basically, it's the kind of watch that you put on in the morning, that you keep on all day, that you almost forget about in the shower thanks to the 5 ATM water resistance, and that gives you just the right amount of data to stay motivated without drowning in numbers.
This kind of promotion doesn't last forever: Amazon can quietly raise the price as soon as stock drops or demand increases. If the XIAOMI Redmi Watch 5 Active was already on your wishlist, don't at least check the price at €30.99 now, it's a bit of a shame. At this price, not looking at it closely is clearly a mistake.
