Watches & Wonders 2023: the new Patek Philippe

For Watches & Wonders 2023, Patek-Philippe leaves aside its famous Nautilus to focus on the other flagship models in its catalog: the Aquanaut there Calatrava and the Driver. Not to mention the models Complications And Grand Complications, the pinnacle of watchmaking expertise of the Geneva brand. A brief overview.

Patek Philippe Calatrava 6007G

We start with a more relaxed version of the Calatrava which bears the reference 6007G. Directly derived from the limited edition 6007A of 2020 (entirely blue dial), the Calatrava 6007G is available in three colors: yellow, blue and red. The dial plays the card of ” casual“, with its 12 Arabic numerals, its timer staggered from 5 to 5, and its brightly colored triangular indexes, matched with the second hand. The central motif of the dial echoes that of the strap, which could make one think of a tropic from the 70s. But rest assured, it is indeed a leather strap! Finally, the white gold case demonstrates great finesse with only 9mm thick.

Patek Philippe Pilot Travel Time Chronograph

For the first time, Patek Philippe presents a flyback chronograph (or return to flight in French) in its Pilot collection. And as if that were not enough, this reference 5924G also offers a function Travel Time, with the display of two time zones, thanks to a 4th skeletonized hand. A feat made possible thanks to the caliber CH 28-520 C FUS : a marvel of watchmaking, visible through the transparent case back, which has no less than 370 pieces and which offers a 55 hour power reserve, which is excellent given its complexity. The second hand is placed at 6 o’clock, while at 12 o’clock we find the monthly date. All in a reasonably sized case, given the complications on board, with 42mm in diameter and only 13.05mm thick.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut

2023 will be the year ofrose gold for the Aquanaut. Three new additions complete this successful collection, all made in this precious metal. First, we find a chronograph, reference 5968R-001, whose chocolate dial blends perfectly with the warm color of the case. Then, Patek Philippe offers the Lucereference 5261R : A annual calendar – day, date, month and moon phases – which requires only one correction per year, at the end of February. A first on an Aquanaut. Finally, for those who want a little more shine, Patek Philippe unveils a version paved with diamondswhich carries the reference 5268/200R.

Patek Philippe Calatrava 24-Hour Travel Time

This new Calatrava Travel Time, reference 5224R-001, is an invitation to travel. Like a GMT, it allows the reading of two time zones. But it does so according to a very particular kinematics: thehour hand rotates in 24 hours, just like the 2nd time zone hand, while the minute hand turns in 60 minutes, in a classic way. And the second hand, meanwhile, is moved to 6 o’clock. The chosen color combination is simply magnificent, with a blue-petrol dial encased in a rose gold case. A traveler’s watch, refined and elegant, enhanced by an exceptional finish.

Patek Philippe Complications Flyback Chronograph & Annual Calendar

Range Complication is enriched with a new chronograph, which bears the reference 5905R-010. This is a automatic fkyback chronographwith annual calendar (day, date and month). The calendar part is arranged in 3 separate windows, as usual with Patek Philippe, while the chronograph function is reduced to its simplest expression: a central white hand and a single 60-minute counter placed at 6 o’clock, traversed by a small white needle too. The case is in pink gold, and measures 42mm in diameter and 14.2mm thick.

Patek Philippe Grand Complications

From Grand Complications, there are four newcomers. The most remarkable is certainly the Grandmaster Chime 3600GR. In a case combining white gold and pink gold, this exceptional model brings together 20 complications ! Among them, 5 sound functions, including 2 patented world exclusives : an alarm sounding at the desired date, and an alarm sounding at the programmed time. An extraordinary piece, which once again demonstrates the watchmaking expertise of Patek Philippe.

There is also the impressive reference 5316/50P-001of which the smoked sapphire dial shows movement. And what a movement! Tourbillon, perpetual calendar with retrograde date and minute repeater. A real spectacle contained in a platinum case of only 40.2mm in diameter. The third Grand Complication is the reference 5178G-012. Apparently, it is probably the simplest. And yet, its dial is in high fire enamel, hand guilloche in a wave pattern, while the R 27 PS automatic movement offers a minute repeater function. Simply stunning. Finally, the fourth Grand Complication is the reference 5531G-001. A piece that combines the minute repeater with universal time in a 40.2mm diameter white gold case. And in its center, a beautiful illustration, representing a boat flying the Swiss flag and sailing on Lake Geneva, entirely made of cloisonné grand feu enamel. A true work of art.
