Two watches, a natural meteorite dial

The young French watch brand Awake has just lifted the veil on its new Time Travelers collection which wants to go even “a little closer to the stars”. Riding on the success of the Omega Moonwatches, the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatches, and simply to continue the development of space watches, Awake offers with its Time Travelers Purple and Gray timepieces that have the particularity of have a natural meteorite dial. Please note that these are numbered watches limited to 500 copies.

From NASA to natural meteorites

Continue the development of space watches? Yes, Awake had already distinguished itself last July with its watch designed in partnership with NASA. With the Time Travelers, these are two watches which are available today for pre-order which share common technical characteristics and which therefore have a natural meteorite dial which we will discuss below.

THE Time Travelers Purple and Gray have a titanium case, 70% recycled, 40 mm in diameter for a thickness of 11.89 mm and a contained weight of 65 grams. Thanks to titanium, an ultra-light material.

As on the Awake x NASA Mission To Earth, the Time Travelers have a dial protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal with ID glass technology (equipped with an NFC chip). The latter allows using their smartphone to certify their authenticity (thanks to the Blockchain) and to benefit from an associated app which offers free additional content (live videos from space, information on the watch, etc.).

Water-resistant to 10 ATM, the new range of Awake watches is also distinguished by the use of a bracelet (20 mm between the lugs) obtained by injection of Biopoly, a material derived from castor bean, a natural plant constituting an alternative to fossil fuels. This bracelet has streaks characteristic of ferrous meteorites on the inside.

Miyota automatic caliber, unique meteorite dial

Finally, the Time Travelers range is powered by an automatic Miyota 9015 caliber which offers a 42-hour power reserve and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The oscillating weight was customized by Awake. The movement and the mass are visible thanks to the transparent case back.

Last but not least, the Time Travelers range is made up of two models: the version Purplewith a purple casing, and the version Gray with a gray box. Both have a more or less clear natural meteorite dial depending on the model.

Kesako a meteorite dial? The Awake teams have indeed acquired fragments of the Muonionalusta meteorite which hit the earth’s surface more than a million years ago and which was discovered in Sweden in 1906. It is believed to be the oldest known meteorite in today, 20 million years older than the Earth itself.

Awake then cut these meteorite fragments into thin strips, then polished to reveal the ridges, to integrate them in the form of a dial in the Time Travelers. Each dial is thus unique, a feat that we salute! To magnify the dial at night, the indexes and hands are coated with SuperLuminova BGW9.

The Time Travelers Purple and Gray are available for pre-order, in a limited edition of 500 copies per model, for a price of €1,490. Deliveries scheduled between September and December 2023.
