Proven by Four: Seiko 5 Sports 38 mm

The main watch brands have finally understood that small cases are increasingly popular with the general public. This time, Seiko is offering a new version of its Seiko 5 Sports with a 38mm case. Four dial colors are available. A guaranteed future hit? Most certainly, especially considering its price of 350 €.

Four colored dials

This new batch of Seiko 5 Sports surfs on the neo-vintage trend. It takes up the codes of the quartz divers launched by Seiko in the 80s. But where we found on the 5 Sports a case of 42.5 or 40 mm in diameter, Seiko has chosen to offer a more contained case. , “only” 38 mm in diameter. All for a thickness of 12.1 mm.

As a diver, the Seiko 5 Sports 38 mm still has a unidirectional rotating bezel, water resistance to 100 m, Lumibrite hands and indexes and a transparent screwed caseback. The case and the bracelet are made of stainless steel. Too bad, however, that the dial is protected by a Hardlex glass. We would have preferred a more resistant sapphire crystal.

And with the four colored dials on offer, there will be something for everyone: black, white, green and orange.

A Manufacture caliber

This is one of Seiko’s strengths. On his news 5 Sports, a Manufacture caliber is offered: the 4R36. It has already proven itself for a long time, and allows a power reserve of 41 hours thanks in particular to 24 jewels and 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz).

This caliber also allows the watch to have a magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m. The Seiko 5 Sports 38 mm will be marketed from May for 350 €.
