The online magazine Monochrome Watches presented last week its predictions as to the potential Rolex models to come for this year 2023. Nothing official from the watch brand, but the assumptions made by monochrome as the show approaches Watches & Wonders did not fail to attract our attention. So we decided to share them in this article.
Rolex Submariner: a titanium version with blue dial and bezel
This year will mark the 70th anniversary of the sportswoman Submarinerlaunched for the first time in 1953. For this occasion, Monochrome Watches imagined a new model modeled on the reference 126617LB, with bracelet and 41mm case in RLX titanium. To these elements would be added a new color, a beautiful blue covering the bezel as well as the dial. On the latter, the mention “Submariner” would appear in red for more fantasy, while retaining the date window at 3 o’clock surmounted by a magnifying glass.
Daytona 116509LV: a white gold version with bezel and green dial
Color also on the side of the new Daytona 116509LV with, for its 60th anniversary, a precious and luminous structure in 18-carat white gold. This one would offer a superb green at the level of the Cerachrom bezel and the dial. This spring tint could be enhanced by fine red edging around the dial counters, indices and hands filled with white luminescent material. A bold combination that could change from other more classic ones.
Daytona 126520: a completely updated version
What if Rolex released a brand new Daytona for 2023? It is a hypothesis that advances monochrome by rethinking this iconic racing chronograph. On the menu, a 41mm case, a wider strap with thinner lugs, a steel bezel, and a panda dial with black counters.
Finally, for the movement, why not a powerful and precise heart based on the caliber 4130?
Rolex Explorer 36 mm: an all-gold version
There Rolex Explorer will also celebrate its 70th birthday this year. On this occasion, we imagine a special model in solid 18-carat yellow gold for the bracelet, the 36 mm case and the bezel. The dial would retain its black face with applied indexes and numerals in gold as well, thus offering a result that is both sporty and precious.
Rolex Explorer: a Polar White version
It seems like monochrome would really like to see this model released since it is not the first time that the magazine has talked about it. It would therefore once again be a Rolex Explorer 36mm, but here in a variation with an immaculate white dial to change from its black version. A shade very little used by the brand, which would therefore create a nice surprise.
Rolex Milgauss: a revisited version
This watch has not been updated since 2007 and deserves some changes. Starting with his heart. We would like the caliber 31xx to be replaced, and for this model to offer a higher level of magnetic resistance, or even a completely non-magnetic mechanism (only 1000 gauss for the moment, compared to Omega which reaches 15,000 gauss on the majority of its guards -time). A lot of work to do in terms of movement.
Regarding the design, the Milgauss could benefit from a rejuvenation at the level of the dial to which a few colors would be added while keeping a relatively sober face.
Rolex Day-Date Tridor bracelet: the return
We end this article on the 2023 predictions of monochrome for the brand with the crown, with this bracelet in a very 80’s style in a version not two-tone, but three-tone, mixing white gold, pink gold and yellow gold. A forgotten model that would largely deserve to return to Rolex, on a watch Day-Date 40mm whose pink gold bezel would make a nice reminder with said bracelet.
