Finally friends, yes finally, today I can unveil the new permanent collection of the young Geneva brand Furlan Marri. In this article, I will therefore introduce you in detail the 3 new automatic watch references which integrates the permanent catalog of the brand.
Remember, in June 2022, about a year after launching the brand and their first chronograph models mecaquartz, Andrea and Hamad have decided to unveil their very first collection of mechanical watches. This is how they presented the magnificent reference 2116-A “Black Sector”, their first three-hand watch entirely assembled in Switzerland and, above all, equipped with a Caliber G100 automatic made by manufactory La Joux-Perret.
The design of the new automatic watches from Furlan Marri
To start 2023 well, Furlan Marri therefore unveils three new references of their sector dial watch (sector dial). These new automatic watches are adorned with 3 new dials: a color Salmon (my favorite), one color Charcoal grey and another from White colour. We find the same case as on the 2022 model, with a diameter of 37.5mm diameter and a thickness of 10.5 mm. Reasonable dimensions and super elegant. Let’s take a closer look at these 3 new references.
The Furlan Marri Reference 2154-A: Salmon Sector
The Salmon version has a magnificent dial with a so-called “struck” sanded texture. There are indexes applied in Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock as well as stick indexes for the rest of the hours. These indexes applied in relief as well as the curved leaf hands have a coating PVD Dark Gun (PVD = Physical Vapor Deposition).
The 3 dials also have two railways: one for the minutes and another for the seconds. The model reference is affixed between 4 and 5 o’clock on the dial, a typical detail of the Swiss brand. The mention Switzerland is found at 6 o’clock.
Reference 2145-A: Gray Sector
For version gray sector, we find exactly the same architecture and organization for the dial but this time in a very deep anthracite grey. The dial of this reference 2145-A is not completely sandblasted. We find an alternation with a “struck” texture And brushed texture circular for the minute track and the second track. This subtle and elegant interplay of texture further accentuates the readability and the sector dial aspect of the watch. Regarding the indexes, the famous 12, 3, 6 and 9 are also polished applied indexes but on the other hand for the rest of the hours it is a double impression which offers a little relief. leaf needles are curved and in polished steel.
Reference 2161-A: White Sector
For the last of 3 new Furlan Marri references, we find a very beautiful white dial, well I find it more very light gray than white but whatever the case, it has a completely smooth texture which offers very interesting plays of light. For the indexes, we find the same arrangement and the same finishes as the version with the Salmon dial: indexes applied in Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 as well as applied stick indexes all in polished silver.
What I love most about this model are blued steel leaf hands as well as the subtle touches of blue found on railway directions seconds and on the Furlan Marri logo.
SANDING
The sandblasting of the dial is not a traditional sandblasting, this finish is executed by stamping. It is with a very specific tool whose grain is produced by electric shock that this finish takes shape. You can easily see the difference in texture with the very first Black Sector of 2022.
A watch with exceptional finishes
If you are familiar with the brand Furlan Marri then you are surely aware that the key word of this watchmaking house rhymes with details and finishes. I had already been pleasantly surprised by the level of finish of the mecaquartz chronographs of the brand, both at the product level and at the storytelling and packaging level.
I must admit that the brand has further pushed the level of quality of the finishes on this new collection. To begin with, the assembly of the stainless steel case is done in several stages in order to keep a clean level of finish on each part that makes up the case.
cow horns have polished surfaces and brushed sides. They are connected to the case by a bridge that can be seen at 12 o’clock and at 6 o’clock on which is engraved with the name Furlan Marri as well as the serial number and the production number which is unique to each watch.
The bezel is also a separately finished items before being affixed to the case. This case, let’s talk about it, even inside, which is a part that is invisible to the eyes of the wearer, Andrea and Hamad wanted to provide a high level of finish. The inside of the box is lined with beadwork, from the inside of the bezel to the back, screwed decagonal. For the crown of this 3-hand watch, the teeth have been left completely raw. The decagonal caseback is screwed down before being circularly brushed and polished.
You will notice that the lugs of the watch are pierced not with one but with two holes on the inside. This will allow you to wear your Furlan Marri with a curved bar bracelet or with straight bars. The watch is therefore delivered with 2 straps: one in Italian leather and the other in French leather. The two bracelets having had a vegetable tanning.
A Swiss La Joux-Perret movement for Furlan Marri
Let’s talk a little mechanical. Andrea Furlan is a great lover of beautiful mechanics and beautiful movements. As with the brand’s very first automatic model, the Black SectorAndrea and Hamad opted for a Swiss Caliber who has nothing more to prove. It’s about G100 movement of the factory La Joux-Perret.
This movement made at La Chaux-de-Fonds is driven by a tungsten mass which is palladium galvanized. This ensures an almost perfect distribution of weight and allows a super smooth rotation and therefore an optimal winding of the spring. The movement has a generous 68-hour power reserve. Regarding the finishes, they are all important since the movement is visible on the back of the watch via a sapphire crystal back. We therefore find Côtes de Genève, snailing, blued screws, as well as an engraving of the motto of the Swiss brand on the mass: “Furlan Marri, crafted with care, designed for details”.
A magnificent caliber with a level of finish down to the smallest detail. For adjustment, it is a very fine adjustment which oscillates between +/-7sec per day.
To conclude on this new release, I personally find that Furlan Marri pushes the level of quality of its timepieces a little further by offering us ever more breathtaking finishes in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of technicality. The texture of the dials, the detail of the curved hands, the indexes and of course the automatic Caliber make it a watch with a pretty crazy value for money.
These 3 new references will be part of the brand’s permanent collection and they will be available from April 3, 2023 at the price of 1250CHF excluding tax.
