An alliance of two highly appreciated Patek Philippe complications, this automatic flyback chronograph with annual calendar reference 5905 has been available since 2019 in a pink gold version with a brown “sun” dial with a black gradient (5905R-001).
In this year 2023, Patek Philippe is replacing it with a new version in pink gold with a blue “sun” dial – a color that is more “modern” and which reinforces the timeless style of this watch.
Flagship model in the catalog of the Geneva manufacture.
The dial is adorned with applied “stick” hour-markers and “dauphine” hands – still very horological – faceted in rose gold with a white luminescent coating.
The latter ensures excellent readability for the additional functions – with a central chronograph hand, a large 60-minute auxiliary dial at 6 o’clock and three day/date/month windows in an arc for instant reading of the annual calendar indications. Finally, a discreet day/night indicator at 6 o’clock facilitates precise date setting.
The CH 28-520 QA 24H caliber, visible through the sapphire caseback, remains faithful to the traditional column wheel for transmitting the chronograph commands; fans will appreciate. But instead of a horizontal clutch with cogwheels, it has a vertical clutch with discs.
“As this modern technical solution causes virtually no wear, the central chronograph second hand can also be used to display the second permanently,” assures the PP in its press release.
As a reminder, the Annual Calendar patented by Patek Philippe automatically takes into account the months of 30 and 31 days, requiring only one correction per year, at the end of February.
The pink gold case (42 mm, water-resistant to 30 meters) stands out for its construction with a concave bezel (which has characterized this piece for years) and indentations on the sides and strap attachments.
“Last but not least”, the color of the dial is echoed by the shiny dark blue alligator strap with a pink gold pin buckle.
