Baselworld 2019

A look back at the most beautiful watches at Baselworld 2019!

Baselworld is the biggest watch fair of the year organized in the world and which takes place in Switzerland. Since 1925, it has hosted the most beautiful watches in the world at each edition, with more than 45 countries represented. For the 2019 edition, we have listed the most beautiful watches that stood out during the event

Patek Philippe Ref 5172G Chronograph

Patek Philippe excels in presenting some of the most coveted watches at Baselworld 2019, including the Calatrava Weekly Calendar (in stainless steel) and the Aquanaut “Jumbo” in white gold and khaki green. However, the one that stands out is the Ref. 5172G Chronograph, which replaces the famous Ref. 5170 presented in 2010. The 5172G is a manual winding chronograph in white gold, featuring a larger case than its predecessor and a beautiful bright blue dial with luminous Arabic numerals. This watch has a sporty yet classy look.

Grand Seiko SBGZ001

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grand Seiko’s innovative Spring Drive, the brand has launched four anniversary models as part of its Elegance collection. The most majestic of these is the SBGZ001, a hand-wound watch that features the brand’s famous “snowflake” dial design, in a hand-cut platinum case. The hands and hour markers are in 14k white gold, while the minute markers are hand-engraved.

Breitling Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition

Under new CEO Georges Kern and with the help of renowned collector Fred Mandelbaum, Breitling has drawn extensively from its archives to establish modern updates on some of its classic aviation watches. This year, the brand traveled back 60 years to produce a reissue of a 1959 Navitimer, limited to 1,959 examples. The particularity of the dial is that it contains a lot of information in a small space.

Chanel J12

While the brand is best known in fashion and fragrances, the watch division has made great leaps forward in recent years. In 2019, Chanel gave the iconic J12 watch a makeover (seen on the wrists of women as diverse as Hillary Clinton and Victoria Beckham) for its 20th anniversary. She wanted to exhibit her new jewels at Baselworld 2019.

Zenith El Primero A386 Revival

Zenith has launched the impressive Defy Inventor, which includes the high-frequency Zenith Oscillator. The year 2019 also marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary El Primero, which is the first automatic chronograph. To celebrate this anniversary, Zenith is launching three El Primero A386 Revival models in yellow gold, white gold and rose gold. Each is limited to an edition of 50 and features Zenith’s signature trio of colorful sub-registers at BaselWorld 2019.

The Joseph Bulova Collection

Bulova has revived a digital dinosaur from the 1970s, the Computron, which features a futuristic-looking trapezoidal case and LED display. This collection pays tribute to the founder of the brand, Joseph Bulova. Inspired by watches from the 1920s to 1940s, the new collection offers 16 models in three different styles: round, tank and tonneau. The collection was a real success, thanks in particular to its stylized Art Deco numerals and its silver dial.

Tudor Black Bay P01

In recent years, Tudor has released many variations of its Black Bay collection. This year, in addition to beautiful stainless steel and gold models, the brand delved into its archives to re-imagine a prototype developed for the US Navy in the 1960s. The Black Bay P01 is a rugged steel diver’s watch stainless steel with a bi-directional 12 o’clock bezel (with a surprising locking system) and a crown at 4 o’clock. If the watch is clearly part of the Black Bay universe, it stands out among the watches present at BaselWorld 2019.

TAG HEUER

TAG Heuer celebrated the new Autavia Isograph collection this year during the event. It also added a novelty to the brand’s Connected Modular line which was highly appreciated by the public and experts. The Connected Modular 45 Golf Watch is an innovative wrist watch. Using GPS technology inside the Android smartwatch, the Golf Edition connects to a preloaded phone app with 39,000 courses worldwide and provides accurate distance and hazard information. It also offers 2D mapping on the watch and 3D renderings on the phone. She can even save the score of four people. Even better, the app can be downloaded for free and the TAG Heuer watch can also be paired with an Apple Watch or an Iphone.
