Apple Watch Series 12 review - Apple Watch

Review of the Apple Watch Series 12

No revolution.

If you were hoping for a completely redesigned Apple Watch Series 12, there may be a bit of disappointment upon arrival. According to information from Mark Gurman, generally very well informed about Apple’s projects, this new generation should above all bring some internal adjustments, a new dial and software optimizations. Nothing spectacular. Nothing that jumps out at first glance.

And yet… that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

A formula that already works very well

Apple still largely dominates the high-end smartwatch market. Its screen remains a benchmark, the health sensors are among the most comprehensive in the sector and the iPhone ecosystem continues to make the difference on a daily basis.

So why change everything?

The brand seems to consider that the current recipe still works perfectly. After the slight refresh brought by the Apple Watch Series 10 with its thinner case and enlarged screen, Apple seems to have decided to slow down. Frankly, when a product sells well, manufacturers rarely take risks.

According to the latest indiscretions, the Series 12 should have almost the same design as the Series 11. The differences would be essentially invisible: slightly improved performance, better energy optimization and various corrections.

watchOS 27 brings a little freshness

The most visible novelty could ultimately come from the software.

Apple is currently testing a new dial called Orchid. The idea is simple: offer a more refined version of the famous Modular Ultra dial. A large clock occupies the majority of the screen while three complications take place in the lower part.

A detail? Yes. But Apple Watch users know that a new watch face can really make you feel like you have a different watch on your wrist.

Apple also recently revealed the Pride Luminance watch face as well as a new Pride Edition Sport Loop band. The firm therefore continues to gradually enrich the user experience without disrupting the whole thing.

Artificial intelligence still remains limited

Many were waiting for the massive arrival of Apple Intelligence on the Apple Watch. At the moment it seems complicated.

The main problem comes from the memory available in the watch. With only 1 to 1.5 GB of RAM according to current estimates, running the AI functions developed by Apple locally seems difficult.

The watch could simply display results generated by the nearby iPhone. But even this possibility is still surrounded by uncertainties.

Brief. If you dream of an Apple Watch that can chat with you like a standalone intelligent assistant, you’ll probably have to wait a few more years.

The real Apple event will be elsewhere

The truth? The Apple Watch Series 12 risks finding itself in the shadow of the folding iPhone that Apple is preparing for the start of the school year.

Between rumors around a future foldable iPhone Ultra, the new iPhone 18 Pro and advances linked to artificial intelligence, the connected watch could go relatively unnoticed during the next keynote.

And that is perhaps what best sums up this future generation: an excellent watch that quietly continues its journey without trying to impress.

Should we wait for the Apple Watch Series 12?

If you already have an Apple Watch Series 10 or Series 11, the gain may be very limited. On the other hand, for users of older generations like the Series 6, 7 or 8, the Series 12 could represent an interesting upgrade thanks to all the improvements accumulated in recent years.

Apple seems to be playing the continuity card. Not spectacular. Not revolutionary. But effective.

And given the still solid sales of the Apple Watch, it’s hard to prove him wrong… well, for now.
