Performances: Who really dominates?
Battery: Huawei advantage, and not just a little
Huawei crushes the competition on the autonomy side. My P20 Pro was easily held the day, where others made the soul before dinner. Samsung improves, but stays behind on this point.
Photo: tight match, shared victories
- Huawei : Leica sensors that do wonders, a zoom that amazed me on the P20 PRO
- Samsung : More versatile, better in video, but sometimes less impressive in difficult conditions
Screen: Samsung, undisputed king
Stop there if the screen is your priority. Samsung’s Amoled tiles are simply unrivaled. The colors explode, the blacks are perfect, and the brightness spray the competition. Huawei does the job, but Samsung plays in another league.
Aging: nobody is perfect
My P20 Pro began to row after a year. The Galaxy S9 held two years before showing signs of fatigue. Do not dream: all smartphones slow down over time, but Samsung is getting a little better.
The ecosystem: the big gap
It is here that everything changes, and you probably already know it.
Without Google, life is hard
Samsung fully benefits from Google services. Huawei, victim of American sanctions, must do without. And concretely, it’s a hassle. I had to juggle Appgallery and other alternative solutions, and I don’t hide it from you: it complicates life. Some apps are missing, others work badly.
Interface: One UI takes advantage
One UI (Samsung) is more intuitive and more fluid than Emui (Huawei). Samsung has found the right balance between simplicity and features. Huawei offers more personalization options, but at the cost of increased complexity.
Samsung Dex: the Joker who changes everything
If you are working on mobility, Samsung Dex is a revelation. Connect your phone to a screen, and boom: you have a full working environment. Huawei tried to copy, but the Samsung version is much more successful.

Design: question of taste, but …
Appearance: minimalism vs audacity
Samsung is betting on refined elegance. Huawei dares more, with sometimes more original designs, but which do not please everyone. Personally, I prefer the more timeless Samsung approach.
Solidity: both hold the shock, but …
My Galaxy S9 survived a beautiful fall without flinching. The P20 PRO had a small impact on the screen in similar circumstances. The two are solid, but Samsung seems to have a slight step ahead.
Ergonomics: Samsung more pleasant in hand
The rounded edges of the Samsung offer a more natural grip. The phones are also generally lighter and finer, which counts when spending hours taped on your screen.

After purchase: the service makes the difference
After -sales service: omnipresent samsung
In the event of a glitch, Samsung has a network of repair centers everywhere. Huawei, handicapped by its geopolitical situation, offers more limited support. When your phone is in harbor, believe me, it counts.
Updates: Samsung more reliable over time
Samsung promises and delivers updates for several years. Huawei is more random, especially since the loss of Google services. If security and new features matter to you, the advantage is clearly in Samsung.
Price: You can see where to put your money
Huawei often offers more technical characteristics for the same price, especially on mid -range models.
Samsung makes his phones pay more, but offers you in return a full ecosystem and a more fluid experience.
The verdict: Samsung, champion of alternatives to Apple
My choice is made: if I had to keep only a brand for the next 5 years, it would be Samsung, without hesitation. For what?
- Screens to die for
- A complete and well thought out ecosystem (connected watches, headphones, etc.) – Besides, if you keep your iPhone, I recently read this interesting article on watches compatible with iPhone
- Samsung Dex, a function that I can no longer let go
- Regular updates that extend the life of the phone
- Easy to find spare parts when it breaks
When to choose Huawei anyway?
Huawei remains relevant if:
- Autonomy is your absolute obsession
- You are a fanatic of the photo
- You are looking to maximize specs for a tight budget
- Google services are not central to your use
Ex-Fans of Apple, here!
If you leave the Apple ecosystem, go to Samsung. The interface is closer, the logic similar, the transition will be less brutal.
Clear
Samsung or Huawei to replace Apple? It all depends on your priorities. For a complete package without headache, Samsung is the choice of reason. For monster autonomy and stunning photos, Huawei can be worth it despite its limitations.
One thing is certain: Apple is no longer the only premium option on the market. And frankly, freedom is good.
